Senior Spotlights

Read about some of the amazing students graduating Tufts University this year, many of whom served the campus and wider community through Tisch College programs, and join us in congratulating them for their leadership, hard work, and commitment to serving others during their time on campus. 

  • Eve Abraha, A21: A 2021 Presidential Award for Civic Life winner and a Tisch Scholar, Eve found innovative ways to support her peers and build capacity as a community. Read more about her work with the TCU Senate and her commitment to pursuing education policy. 

  • Alejandro Baez, A21: A Tisch Scholar for the past three years, Alejandro affected change through a public health lens on campus and off. Read more about his work supporting first-generation college students and creating ways to destigmatize conversations around mental health. 

  • Tyler Brown, D21 & Tyrell Fridie, D21: As joint 2021 Presidential Award for Civic Life winners, Tyler and Tyrell first met before they came to Tufts and they've been working together ever since. Read more about their work to create over 300 videos as part of their platform "Future DDS," which aims to provide advice, mentorship and interviews for other predental and dental students across the country. 

  • Maria Fong, A21: A 2021 Presidential Award for Civic Life winner, Maria's art has been central to her life and identity. Read more about her work to create an inclusive community mural with her peers at the Asian American Center. 

  • Mateo Gomez, A21: A 1+4 alum, Mateo's love for engineering became a love of environmental engineering after transformational experiences and coursework. Read more about his work on campus through the TCU Senate's Education Committee, as a 1+4 Peer Leader, and in a civic pathways course. 

  • Jeremy Gwinn, F21: A 2021 Presidential Award for Civic Life recipient, Colonel Jerey Gwinn wanted a way to translate his on-the-ground skills into contributions to national security policy. Read more about his experience getting his doctoral degree at The Fletcher School and his plans to return to Iraq after graduation. 

  • Omar Harmouche, MG21, D21: A 2021 Presidential Award for Civic Life recipient, Omar and his fellow classmate Alia Osseiran, D22, knew they wanted to address public health disparities in Lebanon, especially for children. Read more about their work to create Box for Health, a nonprofit that has reached more than 4,200 Lebanese children with original oral-health curricula and sustainable dental products.

  • Alex Lein, A21: For 2021 Presidential Award for Civic Life recipient Alex Lein, service was the hallmark of his time at Tufts University. Read more about his work to create and run the Tisch College Student COVID Response Summer Program, which funded 78-student projects aimed at combatting the COVID-19 pandemic and racial injustice all while engaging students' home communities. 

  • Trina Sanyal, A21: A Tisch Scholar, Trina found her "home" at Tufts by balancing her love of architecture, film and media, and social justice. Read more about her work with The Welcome Project, Tufts’ South Asian Political Action Community (SAPAC), and as a peer leader with Tisch College’s Leadership for Social Change program. 

  • Saherish Surani, A21: A 2021 Presidential Award winner and Honos Civicus inductee, Saherish recently published "The Stories of U.S.: A Collection of Stories of Undocumented and First-Generation Immigrants Living in America Today" while balancing her double major of Political Science and Psychology at Tufts. Watch her video interview as she shares fond memories and warm wishes for her fellow Jumbos.

Honos Civicus Society 

This year, 144 undergraduates and graduate/professional students were inducted into Honos Civicus. The Honos Civicus Society selects and publicly recognizes graduating students who engaged in meaningful service and leadership activities or otherwise strengthened civic life on campus and beyond during their time at Tufts.
