Civic Life Lunch - Flipping the House: A Conversation with Congressman Andy Kim

Thursday, February 20 | 12 PM | Rabb Room, Tisch College (Barnum Hall)

Join Tisch College for a conversation with U.S. Congressman (NJ-3) Andy Kim. Kim began his career in public service at the U.S. State Department, where he served in Afghanistan as a civilian adviser to General David Petraeus before working as a national security adviser to President Obama. Kim became inspired to run for Congress in 2018, when he ran against two-term incumbent Republican Tom MacArthur in a district won by President Trump in 2016. Kim won the closest congressional race in New Jersey that year in a victory that young people helped make possible: the youth vote in New Jersey in 2018 was 32.8%, almost three times the 11.1% turnout rate in 2014. Rep. Kim is the second Democrat to represent the 3rd district in 133 years. His signature legislation, the SAVE Act, lowers prescription-drug costs and was passed by the House in 2019.

This event is sponsored by Tisch College, JumboVote and the Political Science Department. Lunch will be provided.
