Tisch College Solomont Speaker Series: Sonia Raman
Wednesday, September 22 | 6:15 PM ET | Virtual Event
Join Tisch College for a conversation with Assistant Coach of the N.B.A.’s Memphis Grizzlies and Tufts alumna, Sonia Raman, J96. The first female N.B.A. assistant coach of Indian origin, Raman was previously the head women’s basketball coach at Massachusetts Institute of Technology for 12 seasons, where she still remains the coach with the most wins in the program’s history. She led the M.I.T. Engineers to win the program’s first two New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championships in 2018 and 2019 and reached the championship game in 2020. Raman herself played basketball while a student at Tufts and later returned to campus as assistant coach of the women’s basketball team. Prior to her coaching career, Raman, a Boston College Law School grad, worked for the federal Labor Department and for an investment firm in the risk and compliance division. She was previously selected to serve on the Coaches Council for the Alliance of Women Coaches, an organization dedicated to leading the field of women coaches, at all levels, by providing support, resources, events and programs which address the needs and interests of its members.
