Tisch College Distinguished Speaker Series: Van Jones
Thursday, October 1 | 5:30 PM ET | Virtual Event
Join Tisch College for a conversation with the CEO of REFORM Alliance, social entrepreneur, CNN political commentator, and host of the Redemption Project and The Van Jones Show on CNN, Van Jones. A Yale-educated attorney, Jones was the lead advocate for the Green Jobs Act, which was signed into law by President George W. Bush in 2007. Jones later worked as the green jobs advisor to President Barack Obama, helping to oversee the multibillion-dollar investment in skills training and jobs development within the environmental and green energy sectors. Passionate about social and economic justice, Jones has founded and led multiple social enterprises, including The Dream Corps, which houses major initiatives like #YesWeCode, aimed to help 100,000 underrepresented youth to find careers in tech, and #cut50, a bipartisan communications campaign to cut the U.S. prison population in half in 10 years. In 2019, Jones and his #cut50 team passed the FIRST STEP Act, a bipartisan federal bill the New York Times called the most substantial breakthrough in criminal justice in a generation. A senior fellow with the Center for American Progress, Jones is also the author of three New York Times best-selling books and the recipient of many accolades: the World Economic Forum's "Young Global Leader;” Rolling Stone's 2012 "12 Leaders Who Get Things Done;” TIME's 2009 "100 Most Influential People in The World;” and the Root's 2014 "The Root 100."
