Civic Life Lunch - Building Worker Power: The Fight for Paid Family Leave

Thursday, September 22 | 12:00 PM ET | Rabb Room, Barnum Hall

Over the past two years, the line between work and home has been blurred for many Americans. Despite the benefits, the shift increases the difficulty of balancing work and family obligations. Join Tisch College for a conversation on building worker power centered on caregiving and economic justice with Carol Joyner, the Director of Federal Policy for Family Values @ Work (FV@W) and Executive Director of FV@W Action.

Carol Joyner has more than two decades of experience working to address policy and programmatic solutions for improving workplace standards. She is also the founding Director of the 1199SEIU/Employer Child Care Fund and past President of the 199SEIU Child Care Corporation, a labor/management benefit fund in New York State. She is a founding member of the NY Union Child Care Coalition and the Work Family Strategy Council. She has served as a National Advisory Board member of the Labor Project for Working Families and Board member of the FV@W – Multi-State Consortium and is also a member of the NCBCP, Black Women’s Roundtable.

This event is cosponsored by Tufts CIVIC, the Political Science Department, the Tufts Democrats, the Tufts Republicans and the Tufts Young Democratic Socialists of America. Lunch will be provided. Visitors attending events on campus are required to be vaccinated and boosted, if eligible, and may be asked to show proof of vaccination.
