Tufts First-Year Global Programs
Tisch College is pleased to offer two unique experiential education opportunities for incoming Tufts students to begin their college journey learning while doing community work, mastering a foreign language, and giving a global kickstart to their college life.
The Tufts Civic Semester and the Tufts 1+4 Bridge Year combine learning while supporting a nonprofit organization, Tufts coursework, and cultural immersion to foster profound personal and academic growth. Each program is distinct: Civic Semester participants take classes together on the Tufts campus in August before departing for one of two service locations where they study the local language and work part-time at a community organization. Students return to campus for their spring term with a full semester of academic credit, allowing them to graduate in four years. Tufts 1+4 is a year of full-time international work before students begin their four years of study on campus. In one of four countries across the globe, students make a difference on an issue they care about, have time to explore new interests and passions, and return with a deeper sense of self and a broader perspective on the world.
Tufts University is carefully monitoring the worldwide COVID-19 health crisis and will make decisions about the viability of international programming with the health and safety of our students, partner agency staff, host families and communities as our first priority. While we have made the difficult decision to cancel Tufts 1+4 for the 2021-2022 academic year, we are exploring opportunities for Civic Semester in fall 2021. Our application for incoming Tufts students will go live in April. Please check back for further announcements and updates.
