Social-Emotional Learning & Civic Engagement (SEL-CE) Faculty Fellows Program

SEL Faculty Fellows

Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing the skills needed to recognize and manage emotions, handle conflict constructively, establish positive relationships guided by empathy, engage in perspective-taking, make responsible decisions, and handle challenging situations effectively.

  • Are you seeking a supportive interdisciplinary learning community with Tufts faculty who want to enhance their understanding and integration of the social-emotional and civic dimensions of learning and teaching?
  • Do you want to explore how and why integrating social-emotional learning approaches can cultivate intellectual humility ("ideological open-mindedness, empathy, and connectivity in academic discourse") equity and inclusive excellence in higher education classrooms?
  • Do you aim to continually develop inclusive and culturally responsive teaching practices in order to more fully reach and engage all students you teach and mentor?
  • Are you interested in considering ways that mindfulness practices can foster well-being, emotional agility and resilience-for yourself and for your work with students and colleagues?

If you answered yes to any or all of the above questions, please consider applying to be part of the Tisch College Initiative on Social-Emotional Learning and Civic Engagement (Tisch SEL-CE) faculty program during the 2018-19 academic year.

Note: The application period has closed.

The 2018-19 Tisch SEL-CE faculty program will include up to 15 Tufts faculty members from schools across the University. The program will extend through the 2018-19 academic year, with three meetings each semester (dates TBD once the cohort is established), and a one-day retreat (9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.) in mid-January. The program is co-sponsored by the Tufts Center for the Enhancement of Learning and Teaching (CELT).

You can read more about the faculty program and about the Tisch SEL-CE Initiative. For questions, please contact Deborah Donahue-Keegan (deborah.donahue_keegan@tufts.edu), Associate Director of Tisch SEL-CE, and Lecturer in the Department of Education.
