Awareness

To share the mission, vision, values, objectives, and opportunities of the GLADI, we run awareness campaigns across Tufts campuses, both formally and informally. Awareness campaigns aim to inculcate a shared “Jumbos” identity, centered on the Tufts motto of Pax et Lux (“Peace and Light”), while also recognizing and celebrating our respective backgrounds and unique and shared identities. Generous listening and dialogue is socialized as a means to foster meaningful connections with ourselves, each other, and our environment, further advancing the Jumbos identity as peacebuilders and illuminators.

In partnership with deans, faculty, staff, and student leaders, we meet with student groups in a “listening tour,” especially at the start of each new academic year to welcome new members to our community. On any given day each semester, you may see our director, Jonathan Tirrell, holding “office hours” in his Generous Listening Booth (a la Lucy from Charles Schulz’s Peanuts) outside Barnum Hall. Be sure to stop by and say hello!

These awareness campaigns will also be used to promote future workshops and events, identify emerging leaders interested in the themes of generous listening and dialogue, and recruit potential participants for future programs and research studies.
