Building Robust & Inclusive Democracy

Racial Justice

Tisch College’s North Star—building robust, inclusive democracy for an increasingly multiracial society—is embedded across our research, courses and programs and supports the University’s efforts to become an anti-racist institution. Tisch College’s major research centers continue to focus on strengthening the political participation and voices of historically marginalized people, especially youth, and on addressing the challenges of building the democratic institutions for a multiracial society.

Themes of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) are at the heart of our community-based work and partnerships. Tisch College has a long-standing DEIJ Committee, which is represented on every hiring committee, and offers professional development and staff reflection opportunities. Elevating this work, Tisch College appointed Shirley Mark as our inaugural Assistant Dean of Diversity & Inclusion in January 2022, bringing deep institutional knowledge to this leadership role.

Dayna Cunningham

We are a country that, in the next 30 years, will be completely multi-racial. There will not be a single ethnic or racial majority.

Dayna Cunningham, the Pierre and Pamela Omidyar Dean

Ambassador Alan Solomont

Our civic responsibility demands that we act, especially in times of trauma and struggle. No institution is exempt from this responsibility, including Tufts University and Tisch College.

Alan D. Solomont, Dean Emeritus
