Biography

Monica enjoys thinking about philosophical issues in terms of concrete, real-life examples, so naturally she is drawn to applied ethics. In particular, she is interested in the ways in which factors that are beyond our control (i.e., good or bad luck) affect the actions that we bring about and the resulting assessments, moral or legal, that are made. Her paper "Moral Luck and the Condition of Control" appeared in the January 2013 volume of the Southwest Philosophy Review.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Monica was excited to be involved in the inaugural of the Tufts chapter of Ethics Bowl in the fall of 2013. When she is not doing philosophy, Monica can often be found baking, running, or playing the piano.
