The 2024 Honos Civicus application period is now closed.
Launched by Tisch College in 2009, Honos Civicus, Latin for “Civic Honors,” celebrates and publicly recognizes graduating students who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to community service and civic engagement during their studies at Tufts University.
Available to undergraduates and graduates at all Tufts schools, Honos Civicus provides an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on a Tufts education's foundational commitment to social impact and to join a network of engaged alumni who share and acted on that commitment.
Honos Civicus inductees are honored during special ceremonies alongside their peers, get a certificate from the dean of their school and the dean of Tisch College, receive a pin to wear on their commencement gown, and are officially recognized during graduation.
Strong Candidates Will Have
- Strong and meaningful community service and engagement activities outside the four-walls of TUSDM
- Leadership and dedication within civic life activities (including service, advocacy, and other social, racial and health justice endeavors)
- Made a positive impact in diverse community settings
- An outstanding record of professionalism and ethical behavior
- A strong academic record
Benefits
The benefits of membership in the Honos Civicus Society include:
- Recognition at a ceremony of Class of 2024 Tufts Health Sciences Graduate students accepted into the Honos Civicus Society.
- Recognition at graduation, with a notation in the commencement program and an Honos Civicus pin for the commencement gown.
- Features on the Tisch College website and other Tufts University publications.
- Membership in the Honos Civicus alumni group, an alumni network of civically active health professionals.
Review
Applications will be reviewed by the Honos Civicus committee which includes representatives from Tisch College of Civic Life as well as faculty and staff members from the School of Dental Medicine.
Timeline
The application timeline for the Class of 2024 will be:
December 6, 2023: Applications Open
January 15, 2024 : Applications Close at end of day
February/March, 2024: Announcement of Class of 2024 Honos Civicus Society
May 17, 2024: Honos Civicus Society Induction Ceremony (Medford campus - building location TBD)
