Community Day

Community Day is an annual Tufts tradition that celebrates arts, innovation and community. Every year, members of the Medford and Somerville communities join us on campus, along with students, staff, and faculty for a day of live entertainment, family friendly activities, and food. Community partners (including non-profits and municipal resource organizations) as well as student organizations often table on this day, giving members of the community at large an idea of the diversity of opportunities found in Medford and Somerville.

At the end of the 2023-2024 school year, LCS hosted its second annual Senior Appreciation Event, honoring our graduating seniors of the Class of 2024 and thanking them for the work they contributed to LCS and neighboring communities throughout their Tufts journey. Thank you Class of 2024! Congratulations on your graduation!

Halloween on the Hill

Halloween on the Hill is an annual tradition that welcomes families and children from the Medford and Somerville communities to Tufts University for an afternoon of Halloween fun. Hosted by LCS in collaboration with Tufts Athletics, the Fall 2025 event took place on October 19 and featured festive activities, candy, and a costume parade for kids and families to enjoy.

JumboVote Event

LCS collaborated with JumboVote to host a nonpartisan civic participation event to encourage voting, political engagement, and community building. Participants learned how to fill out a ballot, discussed why voting is important and learned about voting history.

Partnership with Jumbos For Non-Profits

The Somerville Homeless Coalition and Tufts Jumbos for Non-Profits hosted a Sleep-out event to learn about and raise awareness of hunger and homelessness. After educational programming developed in collaboration with community partners, participants slept outside on the Residential Quad at Tufts in solidarity with the unhoused community of Somerville.

Day of Service

LCS Day of Service was April 11, 2025! The event is from 9:00 am - 2:30 pm, which includes time for breakfast, travel, and reflection. We will be working at the service sites from 10 am - 1 pm. The service sites include community cleanup, environmental sustainability, and disability advocacy.

We are excited and honored to have Cameron Conner as our guest speaker. He is a Visiting Fellow and Professor of Practice at Tufts University’s Tisch College of Civic Life, and has done important work in international disaster relief and healthcare. He has worked within the United Nations to provide housing for refugees in the northern border of Greece. He is also a co-founder of the Conscious Connections Foundation, which is a nonprofit that focuses on education and disaster relief in Nepal.
