Day of Service

LCS annual Day of Service is on Saturday, April 6th from 10AM - 3PM! Last year, LCS engaged more than 150 students to meaningfully serve our community partners in Somerville and Medford. This year, we hope to have even more participation as we expand this event and its impact. The day is designed for Tufts students to connect with our neighboring communities of Medford, Somerville, and Boston through critical service work. We will have several service sites — both on-campus and off-campus — with work centering on various themes such as environmental sustainability, education, and health. If you are able to participate, please complete the below form to the best of your ability.

LCS Member Appreciation

In addition to the major member appreciation event LCS hosts in the spring semester to honor our hardworking subgroups, we are launching a new initiative to host monthly member appreciation brunches. Our first brunch on 2/26 was a success. Thank you to everyone who came :) Be on the lookout for our next one in April!

Community Day

Community Day is an annual Tufts tradition that celebrates arts, innovation and community. Every year, members of the Medford and Somerville communities join us on campus, along with students, staff, and faculty for a day of live entertainment, family friendly activities, and food. Community partners (including non-profits and municipal resource organizations) as well as student organizations often table on this day, giving members of the community at large an idea of the diversity of opportunities found in Medford and Somerville.

Halloween on the Hill

Tufts LCS recently re-initiated the annual Halloween on the Hill tradition, which aims to bring families from the Medford/Somerville community to engage in Halloween activities and fun with volunteers from Tufts University. This year, LCS, in collaboration with Tufts Athletics, organized a program with various performing arts student groups such as Enchanted (a Disney A cappella group), HYPE! Mimez, and Tufts Travelling Treasure Trunk (Children’s theater).

Partnership with Jumbos For Non-Profits

The Somerville Homeless Coalition and Tufts Jumbos for Non-Profits recently hosted a Sleep-out event on Friday, November 17, to raise awareness about hunger and homelessness.  During this event, there was programming to learn about the issue of homelessness in the Somerville community. Then, some members of the event slept on the Residential Quad of Tufts in solidarity with the homelessness community of Somerville.
